The average teen in America spends nine hours each day online consuming media.
The elements of art surrounding us are profoundly changing our lives.
Consider these disturbing statistics and fascinating studies:
In the UK, 50% of 7-year-olds own a cell phone.
By age 11, that number increases to 90%. In the United States, more than half of kids age 11 own a cell phone.
How fast do images and words affect you?
Faster than the blink of an eye. In as little as 13 milliseconds, your brain has already begun processing the images, colors, and words around you — even without you noticing them.
In 2011, we processed five times the information each day than in 1986.
Even in our leisure time, we absorb more than 100,000 words each day.
In 2015, U.S. consumers were on social media apps FOUR TIMES the amount of time spent in 2014.
Multiple studies have found a strong link between heavy social media use and an increased risk for depression, anxiety, loneliness, self-harm, and even suicidal thoughts.
Study: People using 7+ social media platforms were THREE TIMES more likely to suffer from anxiety & depression than those using 0 to 2 platforms.
Anxiety is the #1 health crisis in America. Only 37% of those suffering from anxiety receive treatment.
Study: In 2015, 19% of teens used electronic devices 5 hours or more each day.
Those teens were 70% more likely to have suicidal thoughts or actions than those who reported only one hour of use.
In 2018, record numbers of college students sought help for anxiety and depression.
Study: In May to July 2020, 35% of 30,725 undergraduate students were positive for major depressive disorder and 39% for generalized anxiety disorder.
What is the worst color to wear, according to many studies?
It’s black — the “power” color that has been linked to anxiety and depression. Even in sports, black has been shown to be a losing color. Very little in nature is black, and what is black is usually associated with destruction or death.
The elements of art — such as color, shapes, and images — can be used for healing and positive behavior.
A shade of pink discovered by two Naval researchers has been successfully used in prisons and detention centers around the world to lower aggression and significantly reduce violence within minutes of exposure.
What is the winning color for success that has been shown to attract love, increase income, and win at sports?

The most dangerous word in the world is “NO.”
Two neuroscientists found that dozens of stress-producing hormones and neurotransmitters are instantly released in the body when the word “NO” was flashed for even one second.
Why I’m producing this film
Recent statistics and studies are staggering: In the past 20 years, our lives have been dramatically altered by the images, symbols, and colors around us. The quantity of these elements of art also profoundly affects us quickly and silently — without our knowledge. My mission with The Science of Ink is to build awareness about the elements of art and how they impact our relationships, finances, mood, and health, so that we can make choices that create more positive futures. Join me in making this a reality.
