Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I see the documentary film when it is completed? Which network(s) will be airing the film?"

Our goal is to launch the film first in domestic markets, then take the The Science of Ink to international markets, targeting theatrical release, broadcast deals, VOD streaming, and the airlines.

As you can see from the production reel so far, our team is using a blend of ethnicities, cultures, and studies from around the world to appeal to a broader audience and set the stage for international release as well.

As we sign distribution deals with networks and distributors, we will announce them on our website and social media.

When will the film be completed and released?

We plan to compete filming and post-production by January/February 2022. Release is scheduled for Spring/Summer 2022, although that could change pending the outcome of negotiations with networks and streaming platforms.

Ultimately, the completion for the filming is dependent on raising the balance of funding needed for production, post-production, and film release.

Do you need help making the documentary? How can we get involved?

Thank you for your interest! A film production of this size involves a significant effort from a lot of people. We are seeking help with a lot of things, from volunteers helping with the film production itself, getting connected to potential interviewees, and assisting with fundraising and getting connected to donors. While we may not be able to include everyone who volunteers, we will add you to our list of contacts, and your interest in helping is much appreciated.

If you have skills or connections you'd like to contribute, you can contact us by sending us a message on the “Contact Us” page, and we will get back with you!

May I donate anonymously to help produce the film?

Absolutely! Credits at the end of the film will be listed as “Anonymous,” and as with all donors, we are committed to a strict confidentiality policy by keeping your contact information 100% private and confidential.

To contribute anonymously, please send us a message on the “Contact Us” page, and we will get back with you as soon as possible.

Who has funded the film so far?

Executive Producer and Director Cary Weldy has already funded pre-production and research that spanned seven years, as well as a significant portion of the production. Additional funding is needed to complete production and post-production (e.g., editing, color corrections, sound, captions, packaging, marketing, and so forth).

We are seeking the balance of funding from crowdfunding campaigns, private donors, and grants.

What will you do with the additional money raised in your crowdfunding campaigns?

The crowdfunding campaigns and grants we have applied for will allow us to complete 85 to 90 percent of the total production. Any additional monies raised will be used in our “stretch goals” as follows:

  • Travel and production costs for filming a number of key interviews with industry experts, health professionals, art lovers, and tattooed enthusiasts and artists. We view these interviews as being a necessary component of the film to build credibility and interest.

  • Marketing to promote the film.

  • Advocacy work, which is an important goal. We plan to team up with key organizations like the Child Mind Institute and the American Academy of Pediatrics, who advocate much lower cell phone usage by children and young people. We would also like to address the soaring depression and mood problems mood in kids and teens that stem partially from, while building awareness of the dangers of WIFI/microwave frequency radiation and safety in hands-free driving, as 1 in 4 car accidents and more than 390,000 injuries each year are caused by texting while driving.
